Raya's New Do

Remember back  in the spring  when I gave Raya her first haircut? Well, today I just had one of those moments again where I couldn't stand her straggly toddler hair for one second longer! So Lee will probably kill me (he likes her hair long) but I just had to cut Raya's hair again...I couldn't help myself!

Here's the before and after comparison....It's awfully short, but oh so healthy looking. Ahhhhh.

I  had her sit in the bumbo seat again with a sucker....she was a lot more wiggly this time compare to last  time (or should  I say naughty---she's just plain naughty anymore!) but I managed to get it done and it looks decently straight least not a hack  job

She wasnt' cooperating for pictures so I"ll  try some more tomorrow.

Brielle was being cute for me though. (And Miss Brielle can now get from her  belly into the sitting position, so she is getting into  everything by doing a series of scoots, belly "flops", then up to her  butt again....inchworming all over my house!)

In other news, I will soon be a pro at all things "angry bird"....I had another custom request for Halloween, this time for the "green pig". The lady sent me this photo:

....and wanted it on a onesie for her son.

I came up with this:

The  lady was happy with  it, so that's always good haha.

Today we did some art projects. We have Lee's family reunion coming up so I thought Raya could give out some artistic peices haha. She painted a paper plate and I turned that artwork into this:

Both ideas came from Pinterest. If you haven't  gotten addicted to Pinterest yet, count yourself lucky haha. I can't get enough of it!

Here are some other of my recent "finds"

This this vintage outfit for pictures...

Also LOVE this outfit...wish I could g et it  for Raya but  I"m sure it's all very expensive

I definitely need to get this sign for my new kitchen LOL

I can only  dream of getting a sibling pose this cute some day!

LOVE the way these shelves and picture boards wrap around the corner...

Lastly, I'm definitely starting this Xmas tradition this year. Wrap up 25 Christmas books (ones you have already, some new) and then every night let the kids open one of the books to read as a family that night. LOVE THIS. Half the fun of xmas is opening the presents and even "old" books will seem new after not seeing them in a year and having them wrapped up. Don't have 25 xmas books though so I need to start scoping out the used bookstore!

That's all for today!

50 things you probably don't know about me.

My bloggy friend (SweetNSassyGirls) did a post like this awhile back and I have been meaning to do something similiar, so here ya go :-P

1.) I refuse to wash dishes by hand. Back  in the day when I didn't have a dishwasher I bought one of those kitchen sponges with the long handle (with soap inside) and I washed all of my dishes with that. The thought of putting my hands in dishwater makes me gag.

2.) I won't drink the last little bit of milk in the gallon.

3.) I'm deathly afraid of cherries. I've never eaten one in my entire life, but from a young age refused to try them. The idea of putting one in my mouth makes me sick.

4.) For undergrad I went to a private college where you took only one course at a time. You attended that one class fro 2-4 hours a day for 3.5 weeks, then had like a 5 day weekend (block break) before beginning your next class. I loved that schedule.

5.)  When I was in high school I  was convinced  I'd have boy/girl twins and name then Camden and Claire. I still love the name Camden for a boy, but Lee hates it.

6.) Probably 80% of the 0-3 month clothes my girls have worn were actually purchased for dolls in me and my mom's doll collections.

7.) Growing up my favorite food was mashed potatoes. I would cry if I thought someone else in the family was taking too many because I wanted lots left over for me.

8.) My favorite colors are green and brown, both for my clothing and home decorating.

9.) Lee and I met on yahoo personals.

10.)  Our first date (where we met in person for the first time) was Texas Roadhouse.

11.) If I could  only  eat one thing the rest of my life I'd choose cereal.

12.) I never get my haircut by  the same person twice. I like just walking in to someplace randomly and taking whichever hairdresser is free.

13.) Given the chance I'd probably spend all of my money on children's clothing.

14.) Christmas is my favorite holiday...and I am not religious.

15.) Fall is my favorite season. Lee and I were married on Oct. 26th because I love fall. My wedding colors were brown and ivory/champagne.

16.) I don't  like sleeping always makes me wake up feeling tired. I also don't take naps for the same reason.

17.) I'm a huge  procrastinator. I almost always get done what needs to get done....but just under  the wire, last minute style.

18.) I wanted 4 kids, Lee wanted 2....we have compromised on 3. I "got my way" by agreeing to change all poopy diapers (if I'm home...I obviously don't rush home to change  them if he's alone with the girls or something haha).

19.) At this point and time I think having 3 girls would be fun. Lee hopes our third (and final) is a boy.

20.) I love sweets. I pick sweet over salty every time.

21.) I learned Santa wasn't real after my brother and I found where my mom kept all of our baby teeth, and she revealed that the tooth fairy (and Santa, etc.) weren't real. After we found out my brother and I went around thanking my parents for all the things we had previously thought Santa bought for us haha.

22.) I wish I still believed in Santa.

23.) I go through spurts of loving coffee and  drinking it constantly to not drinking it at all.

24.) I wear maternity clothes sometimes even when I'm not pregnant. It's so damn comfortable.

25.) I'm a pretty social person, but I don't like going new places. Once I'm actually there I am fine though. The anticipation of something new and different makes me nervous!

26.) I have a sarcastic sense of humor.

27.) In college I double majored in Psychology and English.

28.) I've been to Germany and England.

29.) I'm a little bit of an internet junky. Whenever I'm feeding the baby I'm using one hand to play on the computer :-)

30.) I had elbow surgery at the Mayo clinic in college, due to damage from my arthritis. For one month after the surgery I had to wear a giant metal contraption that strapped to my body and a motor moved my arm up and down 23 hours a day. I had to plug myself in at night and sleep propped on my back, and all night long the motor continued  to move my arm. It was HORRIBLE. I continued working two jobs that summer (at a residential facility for trouble kids *and* at a gas station) and during a field trip for my first job I was actually kicked out of a museum tour because the  motor on my contraption was bothering other visitors LOL.

31.) My favorite pop is Diet  Coke.

32.) My favorite candy is chocolate *or* sour patch kids.

33.) I wear a size 9.5 shoe and size 10-12 dress/pants

34.) I hate doing laundry.

35.) If I ever get another dog I want a West Highland Terrier (Westie). I think they are so cute.

36.) I didn't really enjoy my job as a school psychologist. I wish I had picked a different degree, but I have no idea what. I loved having my summer's off though.

37.) I can't drive at night. I fall asleep very easily.

38.) My go to outfit of choice is jeans and a hooded sweatshirt.

39.) I got super nauseous/sick with both of my pregnancies for the first 18-20 weeks.

40.) I went 4 days overdue  with Raya. I cried (literally).

41.) My least favorite "holiday" is New Year's Eve. I don't really get the point. I'd rather go to bed.

42.) I'm completely unartistic...I can't  draw a recognizable  picture for the life of me. All of my Etsy designs are things I've traced from somewhere to make my own stencils haha.

43.) I took piano lessons all growing up. I still enjoy playing but haven't in a really long time. When we were dating lee bought me a really fancy keyboard to play and I loved it, but haven't gotten it out in a long time since getting married and having kids. I want to teach the girls to play some day.

44.) I also took dance class for 3 years in middle school. I can't say I was very good.

45.) I have a high school varsity letter in the sport of golf. There were only 8 girls on the team and the top 6 were considered "varsity". I was a pretty bad golfer but still better than 2 other girls!

46.) My most favorite years (other than my years as a mom) were my Junior/Senior years in high school I think. College was OK, but I have more fond memories of high school.

47.) I don't  like hardwood floors. I like the *looks* of them, and I think they are fine in the kitchen/dining room....but I hate how cold and hard they are in other living areas. I prefer carpet.

48.) I'm very low maintanace. I shower, put in a pony tail, and throw on some foundation and mascara....then I'm good to go. I took a little extra time blowdrying my hair and such in my younger days, but I've never been into fashion/makeup all that much. I spend way more time on my girls' clothes than I ever did on my own.

49.) School was almost always cancelled on my birthday due to snowstorms growing  up. Many birthday parties had to be rescheduled. I was born inbetween two snowstorms according to my mom.

50.) I just wasted 30 minutes of nap time filling out this list, when I should have been sewing more Etsy orders!

*************Check out this video of Brielle I just uploaded to youtube:***************

I feel horrible that I haven't  take a video of Brielle in months. I want to be able to remember her when she was little, but I've just been so busy and we misplaced the camera for awhile yesterday I took a video "just because" to forever remember her cuteness at this age :-)

And the photography master is....

Well my "loyal" readers, you have let me down!!! I must bow down to Lee, the photography master, and I'm none too happy about it! :-P
All of the outdoor pictures from the previous entry were taken by Lee, and all  the inside ones by me. Although the exact photo favorites varied, it was clear that in general Lee's photos were the winners! Raya's #1 was the clear favorite, with a sprinkling of votes for #2  and *my* #3. My #4 and #5 had one vote  each only I think (I personally  loved #5 :-P)

For Brielle the clear winner was  #3, followed distantly by #1 and then  #2. My #4 of Brielle did get a handful of votes---from the people with any sense of what  a truly good photo looks like! Apparently my whiteboard idea did not amuse. Apparently you have  no sense  of humor  ;-)

So Lee  holds the title for now, but I fully expect to re-challenge  him at a later date. See, I sort  of knew Lee had  this one in the bag when I posted the photos. I mean seriously Lee, you take the camera and girls  outside (and everyone knows outdoor pictures "win") and then  give the girls back to me at bedtime and with a dead camera. That's  very sneaky, but I"m on to you now. Next competition I get them first!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess you all will just have to deal with  my  crappy picture taking today--I can't employ  Lee for every blog update!

But  let's just say he's not the only one who can stick a cute baby in some grass people...I mean, it's  the oldest trick in the book!

And see this cute owl hair clippie? To make just go to the scrapbooking section and buy
some foam stickers. I got a pack of different colored owl ones. Then stick them onto a peice of felt and cut them out
---that "backs" them so that the sticker back doesn't show--
then take an aligator hair clip and hot glue on some ribbon...then glue on the owl! :-)

Not really sure what was up with  Raya's "stink face" today LOL

....she's probably just mad that I lost  the photo competition. Me too Raya, me too.

Know which competition Lee will never win? The BEST MOM competition. I've got that one  in the bag :-)

Maybe because I let Raya bake cupcakes  at 9am...

What? Her favorite book  right now is "Pinkalicious", about eating too many pink  cupcakes. She declared *she* wanted to eat cupcakes too ("Raya likes cupcakes too  Mama!") and who am I to  argue with "the boss"?! :-P

I showed her  how Mama likes to eat the frosting with a spoon while we wait for them to cook...

Here she was jumping with  excitement because they were done cooking hehe

After she ate her cupcake she said  "TWO cupcakes Mama! TWOOOOOOOOOOOOO", I may be the best mom ever, but there is no way I'm letting her eat TWO cupcakes  before  lunch! :-P

And to end today, Raya and I really only have one thing to say to you "loyal" readers:

"MAMA SHOULD HAVE WON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Operation "Clean Closet"

Ok, so as our move gets closer and closer (no date set yet  by the way, but all systems are a go now, so we'll be scheduling with the movers soon! We are even in talks with the sellers of our new home to see if we can move the close date up on the new house--maybe early Oct. rather than the end of Oct. :-) .....but anyways, as the move gets closer I start to panic more and more about all the junk in our house!!!
First off, thankfully the relo company through Lee's work  is paying for movers to pack us, store the stuff up to a month, and move us into the new house. That is AWESOME! However I've never had real movers before, so the idea of them packing my stuff up is a little intimidating....but I guess  at least *I* don't have to do it. Still, I don't  want the movers to pack up and move boxes of junk--clearly they aren't  going  to sort it all out for us (although I wish they would LOL) so this weekend I told Lee I wanted to take a bunch of stuff to Goodwill and trash a bunch as well. I need to declutter my life!!!!!!!

Here's the thing though, I HATE clutter. I'm someone who, if given a shelf in my house, will choose one nice  frame to sit on it....that's it. I don't like having a shelf that  is covered in frames, trinkets, knick-nacks, etc. etc. For one, who the hell wants to dust around all that? And two, I like things to be visually "clean" and if I'm going to decorate my house with something I want it to be a larger "statement" peice rather than a shelf of doo-dads :-) So clutter, in the truest sense of the word people, is NOT my problem.

Here is my problem:

That my friends, is my craft/sewing room. Yes. Need to go rinse the horror of that sight from your eyes? No problem, I'll wait here.

At this point I feel the need to show pictures  of what the rest of my home looks like. Please don't call CPS...the children are not lost in the mess above. They are playing in the rest of our home, which (most days) is a pretty clean space!

But the sewing room....Oh goodness....*that* is my trouble spot. Here's what happened. When we moved in to this house we needed a "misc." room. You know, like the junk drawer everyone has in their  house, we needed an entire room to place all the odds and ends that didn't really belong anywhere else. This room was that  place. At the time we moved in I also wasn't quite done with graduate school--still finishing my thesis--so I had tons and tons of articles, papers, books, etc. related to that, which I didn't want to throw away until  I graduated just in case I needed them for some reason. All that went  in this room as well. Then there was all the craft stuff. Scrapbooking, crochet, and now sewing ---all  piled in this room. And lastly, I'm a repurposing addict. My crafty self sees an old corkboard and has visions of recovering it in fabric to make a photoboard....or I see an old mirror and want to paint  it and turn it into a statement peice. So this room also began to collect all the junky things that I *planned* to repurpose. Follow me so far?

Then came marriage, then a baby carriage....and another :-P At this point things continue going into the room....nothing however comes out!

And so that is how this horror came to be. How embarassing!

So yesterday I worked and worked on the closet in this room. I found  things  in there I haven't seen in years! After much hard work the closet now  looks like this:

I didn't think to take a before photo, but it was pretty much packed full floor to ceiling LOL. Now it simply houses my scrapbooks and photoalbums for the most part (which although I still love scrapbooking, I'm glad I got into blogging because scrapbooks and picture albums take up a lot of space!)

Ok mover men, have at least  I won't have to hide my face in shame when you come to pack  this closet up now :-)

The rest of the room though? Um, still a complete mess! I just don't know what  to do with  everything you guys! I have tons of fabric, felt, tshirts and onesies, ribbon, thread, yarn, buttons, etc. etc...not to mention all the "supplies" like rotary cutter, tranfer paper, iron, and about 1000 other things.

In the new house  I will have a huge space in the corner of the downstairs  family room, so I definitely  have plenty of room to work with. However Lee is slightly panicked about me sharing his downstairs space because he obviously doesn't want it to look like what it does now!!!

I look online sometimes for "inspiration" sewing room spaces and have come across some gorgeous rooms, like these:

Clearly I can't afford to go all  out like those though. At the same time I'd prefer not to have the space be a collection of odds and ends containers, because it *is* out in the open downstairs at the new house and I want it to look nice.

Right now I'm hoping that maybe eventually I'll  be lucky enough to get a little space more like this one (without the pink walls of course---don't think that will  go with the "lodge" decor Lee has planned in the downstairs family room LOL):

So we'll see. I do know though that I vow, here in front of you all, that the new house will not have a "misc." room, and I am going to be better about throwing crap away when it's never being used!!!!!!!!!

How about ending with some "cute", you know to help combat all the mess you just had to look at :-)

Brielle, clean up your toys...little miss toy hoarder :-)

Both my girls have loved this vibrating teething toy haha
Finally, thanks to all who have voted in the photo contest! (Check out my previous entry if you don't know what  I'm talking about haha). I also posted our contest on my little baby forum for January 2011 babies and got like 20 some votes over there tomorrow I'll compile all the votes and let you know which photos came out on top! :-P

Photo contest 2011--BRING IT!

So tonight Lee and I entered into a spontaneous photography competition. It all started when Lee grabbed the camera and I said something like "oh, you're trying to be an awesome photographer like me now huh?"....and then he said something like "you may take *more* pictures than me, but I take *better* pictures than you" which point I challenged him to a competition LOL. And let me tell you, Lee  is VERY  competitive. He took the girls for about 1 year and held the camera hostage....and then gave them to me when they each had about 10 seconds of happiness left and the camera had 2 minutes of battery life. (Needless to say I feel he had a slight edge!) Being at a significant disadvantage though doesn't worry me....I have faith that the true photographer  will be crowned winner here in this forum (need I remind you all that this is MY forum....perhaps you better think twice before voting against me!)  All joking aside though, help us out--crown a winner! Be honest.

Here's how you play. Pick ONE photo of each girl (one of Brielle, one of Raya) that is your favorite. Judge based  on the overall  photo--composition, creativity, editing, etc. etc. To keep things fair we were not allowed to change clothes or add accessories in their hair....they wore what they were already in (which for Raya was pantless in a raincoat--don't ask!) Comment with your  favorite photo for each girl--the winner gets bragging rights for all eternity! (and knowing Lee, if  he wins he will remind me of this for all eternity most definitely).

The entries, in no particular order, are:

For Raya--

....and for Brielle the entries are:

Now vote! Voting will  end in a couple days, once we feel we have a sufficient number of votes to make things fair hehe. Remember, you are voting for the best photo for each girl--judge based on composition, creativity, photo editing, etc....everything counts!

We anxiously await the verdict....
